As an artist specializing in advertising and poster

design for over a few years I've been inspired by a great poster and typeface designer named Adolphe Mouron Cassandre (1901 - 1968). He was a great French poster designer and artist throughout the 1920s and 1930s. Born in Ukraine, he moved to Paris to study art at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. He was inspired by cubism and surrealism as many of his counterparts did a

t the time like Picasso. Along designing famous great posters h like e also introduced new typefaces to accompany his designs. Most of his design were transportation oriented and helped make a market out of the most prominent modes of transportation during the Machine Age. His most famous work are depicted here ArtyFactory. Cassandre also designed typefaces like Peignot, and Acier Noir using sans-serifs t

o clarify letters and eventually led to the development of Helvetica and other simple sans-serifs typefaces.

I'am truly inspired by Cassandre's work. I try to incorporate a his style in my designs to express the use of classic art. I believe that great artist and designers like Cassandre led to modern art today because they introduced a plain simple way to design but

remaining expressive art high quality design. Since the 1920s and 1930s inspire me very heavily I tend to visualize those times and invert it into 21st Century art. The most beautiful poster I've ever seen is the one above which shows all of Cassandre's masterpiece. Posters like that inspire me to paint graphites and charcoals like the one below.

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, serif; As we all know, the past makes the future and so it has to me when it comes to art. In Graphic Design I prefer to refer to the past for inspiration since I see the past as an exiting life I wished I could live. From the past the 20th Century is one of the most advancing influential century's in world history with many events in art and culture. As the 20th century rolled in, many world events made dramatic changes in life and eventually led to great developments in art. From the 1900's to 1920's a form of art came called the Arts & Crafts style which emphasizes the idea of deconstructionism creating various geometric shapes and sizes to be applied in an orderly fashion. It also brought the crave of using various tones and shades of many colors designed with elegance and clean finished lines to create a contemporary look. Another style of this era was the Art Nouveau as of "New Art" to represent improved design ideas used by graphic designers, architects and applied artists like Picasso. In the first half of the 1920's the influence of Gothic design was popular. However it was used in a modern fashion using black and white simplifying design. In the second half of the 1920's and throughout the 1930's and early 1940's Art Deco and Streamline Modern design became a major thrill in art to relate to the times. The poster above is a personal favorite it gives a sense of clean and simple design to attract people. As Americans were eager for a new modern life after World War I they felt that modernism was a great way to represent that. Art Deco used black & white colored graphics with clean typography. This method was applied to all types of art. cities were built and scattered with the movement including fashion and transportation design. As we know here in New York we see that the largest building the Empire State Building was built using this style censoring that Art Deco is powerful and dominant. However, after the end of World War II designers began searching for new ways to express post-war America. This introduced the use of new machines and methods to make art more realistic and much more simpler. By the 1970's Brutalism a major Cold War era design became popular and by the late 70's design influenced by the disco crave rolled in with nocturnal colors streamlined typography with shiny gleaming lights and sexual appealing art. The 80's intoduced the use of computers to introduced a new of design making art a oasis of galaxies and neon colors to represent the times. Velvetant.net shows a great example of how modern art has become compared to the start of the century. These styles have influenced the way artist including myself to make extravagant artwork to build a good future for art.

Blog #7: The Habits of College Studying and Note Taking

In college concentrating on certain topics can be very overwhelming. As Chapter 12 and Chapter 15 stated, studying note taking and concentrating on studies has many strategies to make them successful. In my case I have difficulty in note taking strategies and learning how to concentrate while studying. Personally I could get distracted constantly by simple things while trying to get work done. If someone around me is talking about something that interests me I could get sidetracked. However, after reading Chapter 12 I took advantage of the strategies to help me concentrate while studying.

Despite my troubles on concentrating while studying, I do have note taking habits to help me concentrate successful. When doing homework and projects I make sure that I have no loud noises what so ever present. Usually I have background music to sooth and calm me down to not make me rush through my work. Otherwise most of the time I do my work anywhere as long as its not in my bedroom or any room alike. My bedroom has many entertainment for example video game consoles, TV,a dvd player and artwork supplies since I enjoy painting and sketching. I also make sure no where near the kitchen because I love to cook and I'll just end up whipping up a meal. However, despite the locations to study If a room is too quite I could get nervous.

I also have strategies to note taking even though I experience difficulty with taking notes. Since I'm used to the note taking strategies of High School, taking notes while the professor talks is something new to me. Therefore, when the professor mentions valuable information I tend to write it out unorganized on my notebook. Now I know the disadvantages in just writing wildly on my notebook after I read Chapter 15 and now I would take the tips given to help improve my note taking skills. From now on I would practice note taking strategies and tips both from the book and from jerz.setonhill.edu. The particular changes I need to drastically make is to make sure I split my paper in two separate columns to accommodate my notes and make them more readable as noted in the picture below. As for improving my studying environment I need to make sure I sit on a chair straight up with my eyes pealed at the paper and/or computer.

Blog# 6: Drastic College Dating

Dating in college has major pros and cons. It can lead to prosperity and eliminate your college worries but can also lead to distraction from academic success. Attending the same school as your partner can be demanding because it can distract you from your academic work and cause missed classes, failures in homework/exams and much more. A great privilege in dating in college is that having someone to care for and hang out can relief stress and make you feel like with no emptiness or loneliness. This sounds very good until a certain discussion or break-up gets in the way. As shown in Cosmogirl, dating can vary from dating in High School when it seemed easy to just forget about a ruined relationship. In college dating can get serious and even making someone drop-out just to be away from that certain relationship they don't wan't to deal with anymore. Dating in college can also lead to a marriage or a deep relationship that can lead to raising children.

When dating in college and attending the same class as your partner, it could become a bit overwhelming. Imagine having the "love of your life" sitting right next to you, talking and sharing each others thoughts constantly and then sooner or later your professor has to pause the lesson just to confirm that you've disrupted his class. Then you've noticed that your work is not done and probably won't get it done because you are with your partner constantly. Just as it sounds, it can very demanding and stressful. However, dating has it's upturns and cons. Dating can sooth your soul when you're restless after working long hours and days or doing large amounts of homework. It can calm you down and improve self esteem and probably make you feel confident about having relationships in college. Dating can also lead to your first marriage in which happens occasionally in college. At the end of the day you'll always have your partner with you throughout hard days in school as sown in the picture to the upper right. Otherwise it is a very big case to date in college.

Blog# 4: Internet Reputations.

The Internet or the World Wide Web has become a common source in society today. It comes with a variety of good sources and many times it can lead to negative effects that can influence your life and reputation. Posting on common websites of the world wide web is very interesting, fun, and versatile. However, it can cause some harsh side effects that can jeopardize your future and even your social life. When posting comments or blogs on the internet take note of the things you write and show. Because writing or showing a picture of something too out-there can cause you to loose your job or create tension with friends and peers as shown in webmd.com.

As a teenager I love the internet and using such websites for example Myspace or Twitter are my sources for blogging and posting. In my days during high school i managed to make comments and statements that made some people think twice about my friendship and also edged-up my reputation at school. I used to post comments on school gossip and it easily portrayed an image of a talkitive person. I have learned my lesson and that is why I don't regret it. Everything happens for a reason and as I have always told myself, "There is a difference between saying anything and saying everything". Now that I'm in college I hope not to make the same mistakes. I believe I have matured enough to do such things. I never really had many internet chaos, however I hope I won't fall into a trap again and do what is best as shown in the picture to the left.

Blog #3: Creativity is My Life.

As a art major student, I'm very creative and my work is very authentic. My interest in the creative Digital Media Arts major is very energetic and can be defined in various ways. Since technology have become a main source in the 21st Century, my interest in technology has skyrocketed to a point that my days are spent working on computers learning new and exiting things. From Adobe Photoshop to other Adobe programs like Illustrator I am loving the way the Arts have developed into a wizard of flowing colors, pallettes and technological creativity that one could have done by paper and pencil. As you see in the photograph to the right, the enthusiasm i have for Art Deco Graphic Design is quite relevant and can be done various ways by hand( as designers originally made Art Deco graphics) or by computer. Since Graphic Design has become very electronic, producing such designs have become cleaner and simpler to make.

The use of computers in the Advertising Design industry is very interesting to me as well.An example of this particular career is shown on ehow.com. I chose DMA as a career because I have a great aptitude for this major. Almost every piece of artwork on the street or on the web inspires me to create sleek modern artwork. In five years from now I could see myself working in an Advertising firm anywhere inspiring and vibrant in the creativity major. Miami, Fl is one my favorite cities where i hope to see my Advertisements and Logos along it's palm lined streets in the near future. The city features great designers and gallerys scattered throughout it's metropolitan area.

Blog #1: College is Dramatic

Chapter One and Chapter two relate to me in a very similar manor. Chapter one describes how College is very different from High School and how responsible i need to be in college. This, greatly relates to me because i was one of the many students who believed that college is very similar to high school. However, being in college for two weeks now Im learning how it differs from high school and how i need to be more responsible to make sure i arrive in time to class, finish homework assignments and be motivated to do anything that comes by. As you see in the picture on the left, Im beggining to learn that hard work is accomplished by focusing on assignments and getting into the work.

Chapter Two Offers content that also relates to me. The chapter explains how homework is so important in college and how asking for help to get things done is a convenient way to manage college life. This relates to me because i've been very timid to ask for help. Asking for help has been a major problem for me ever since i've started college since i feel weak asking for help. An example of this is in Academic Tips. As you see asking for help can be overwhelming but it is good to do so in able to go through a succesfull college experience. Ever since attending TCI I had made some life adjustments to make sure i do well in school. I discontinued hanging out with friends every day or two since i wan't to concentrate on books first. I seem to save more money since some classes require books supplies to be purchased. I have also been feeling that i need to be more responsible. In the future i plan to make sure that Im more focused on studying and making sure no one gets me distracted from my schoolwork. And since summer is on it's way i plan to make sure i attend school everyday and leave my beach visits for time that I'am not involed with school.
